This article will demonstrate step-by-step how to upgrade Cisco SDWAN Viptela Software
Software Upgrade for SD-WAN Viptela
To download new software images or to upgrade software images on a Viptela device, use the software Upgrade screen.
A centralized vManage NSMS allows users to upgrade Viptela software and then reboot the devices with the new software. This can be done for one device or multiple devices at once.
A group of vBond controllers, vEdge routings and vSmart control controllers can be upgraded and rebooted by the user. The software upgrade and reboot takes place first on the vBond controller, then on the vSmart controls, and finally on the vEdge routings. Up to five routers can be upgraded or rebooted simultaneously for vEdge routers.
The vManage NMS cannot be used by the user during a cluster software update operation.
It is recommended that you perform all software updates from the vManage NMS rather than the CLI.
Viptela has separate software upgrade images for hardware (vEdge routers), IOS-XE devices, and Cloud vEdge. Cloud vEdge is what we use in our lab so we will use a software image for Cloud vEdge upgrade. If you use vManage on VMware, you can also use a similar image.
Note: vManage has a separate software picture, while other controllers (vSmart and vBond), will use a similar picture for upgrading.
The user can save the upgrade files to vManage, remote server or on the local machine from which controllers and vEdge can download the latest software.
